This handsome patio, pizza oven, and BBQ was a Steve Sutherland Design and overlooks the oldest conduminums in the United States as well as the Monterey Bay at Capitola by the Sea. The Pizza oven is flanked by solid concrete bench seats and back and planter. In addition, the large stones were imported that blended well with the the creamy yellow concrete and stucco.
The Quito Road Fireplace is in Saratoga CA and is a Rumford built in 2007 by TRC's mason Tom Jacobsen and designed by Los Gatos Architect Michael Mckay. Rumfords have a shallow firebox and are designed to throw off a large amount of heat providing comfort on chilly nights. This fireplace is the centerpiece of an amazing Outdoor Kitchen/Pool Deck that features many different and varying materials, colors and textures ranging from stucco, flagstone, tile and acid stained concrete.
The Georgia and Chris McGriff Pizza Oven was built in conjunction with patios, planter beds, seat and retaining walls and is nestled into the Branciforte Hills of Santa Cruz, CA. The McGriffs love to entertain and had ideas about the layout of their back yard. After some discussion, a layout for their Pizza Oven, BBQ, Patio and Steps were agreed upon. The colors were various shades of green to harmonize with their mountain side ambience. The stamped concrete patios integrated 2-green colors while picture framed with a dark green boarder. The stucco on the Pizza Oven and the block wals housing the BBQ and sink were acid stained with a Fern Green color.
The Caiocca Pizza Oven was unique in that they wanted a concrete roof and a brick chimney with brick surrounds at the wood storage opening as well as the pizza oven opening. The oven was made by Mugnaini of Watsonville CA and this particular model is a Medio. When the brickwork was completed the masons placed a final stucco coat with a Weathered Sage color.
The Greg and Anne Scileppi Residence has a unique pizza oven with a brick façade and a matching fireplace right next to it. The brick Pizza Oven and Fireplace were chosen by the Scileppi’s because they wanted to tie them in with the brick bands and brick coping. Greg also thought since he was going to have an outdoor kitchen and a swimming pool he might as well add a small putting green next to the pool….and that is exactly what he did.
The Maturi Woodburning Fireplace is located in the Silver Creek Country Club in Almaden CA. The adjacent cast-in-place concrete bench and the concrete mantle that stands proud of the Idaho Quartzite. The concrete was colored with a very bright ash white color to provide a nice visual contrast. The masonry work for this project proved to be very labor intensive as most of the stone were cut individually to provide the desired look for the fireplace, jacuzzi and the adjacent raised bond beam walls. The mantle is supported by 2-cast-in-place concrete ash white korbels while the concrete pinecone accents were pre-cast. A silver grey concrete was used for the jacuzzi coping and wall caps.
TRC was asked to work on a $15 million dollar renovation which included a a new dining area at the rear patio, sidewalks and custom concrete around the fireplace. Located in the entry/parlor, the concrete doubles as a hearth and seating area around the new fireplace and is one of the first features that people will see when they walk into the Chaminade. The Platinum Grey polished concrete gives the fireplace an understated and timeworn elegance that Chaminade was asking for.
